Mixed Breed Dog with Chronic Bronchitis
Shadow's bout of kennel cough turned into something much more serious.
Vet Bill: $5,998
Background
Sometimes your pooch can develop a cough after playing hard and being around other animals. In Shadow's case, the cough led to pneumonia, and further testing was needed before a final diagnosis was made.
Shadow’s mom, Shelly R., tells us the story:
"This journey started when Shadow began coughing. He was diagnosed with kennel cough which we attributed to doggie daycare. When the coughing persisted, and breathing became an issue, we rushed him to the ER where he was diagnosed with a tracheal collapse. Fortunately, after seeing specialists, it was determined he did not have tracheal collapse - he had pneumonia, and the specialists determined he needed to have a special procedure.
I had been working with Customer Care Embracer Christine B., who was FABULOUS. She helped me every step of the way, with the pre-approvals for the surgery, as well as getting the claims paid quickly. Once the diagnosis of chronic bronchitis was made, I asked Christine if his medications would be covered and she spoke with the adjuster and was happy to report, YES!
It was thousands of dollars in emergency room visits, specialist visits, and diagnostic testing before the final diagnosis was made. And each time the claims representative was very helpful in ensuring I knew what was covered, and worked with me through each claim. I am so thankful his treatment is covered as the medication is expensive.
I can't sing the praises of Embrace enough! There have been a couple of times when I had considered dropping the insurance because we hadn't used it, but I'm so glad I didn't. The past couple of years, the insurance helped offset unforeseen costs."
