Hind End Paralysis
Pudge the English Bulldog has spinal cord compression.
Vet Bill: $7,411
Background
Pudge's mom, Lacey, got him from a local breeder. Just a week after he was neutered, he began to suffer from hind end paralysis due to spinal cord compression. Lacey tried everything from acupuncture to chiropractic therapy to complete confinement and prednisone, but nothing helped.
Pudge underwent spinal decompression surgery (a thoracic hemilaminectomy) at Southern California Veterinary Specialty Hospital costing $7,411. He could not be moved for 4 weeks, but in his 5th week, he has shown signs of improvement. Since his water therapy, Pudge can stand on his own and take a couple steps before he falls. He has even regained control of his bladder and bowels.
Lacey says:
"The water therapy is really great for Pudge. He is building back his muscle. My prayer is that one day he will walk again on his own...unassisted! Each day he shows a little progress. He is a fighter. He is so happy. He doesn't even know he is handicapped. Animals are so amazing!"
